Tom grew up with boating in his blood and water in his veins.   As he grew, so did his boats.   His vessels ranged from pontoon and small runabouts to a 27' Formula.  

Today, Tom is professionally trained in examining marine losses.  He has 15 years of marine claim experience under his belt.  In fact, Tom was a Claim Supervisor at Markel American prior to becoming the Marine Director.  In those 15 years of claims, Tom recovered millions of dollars in recovered boats due to theft. 

Tom is actively involved in IAMI (International Association of Marine Investigators) and in the marine surveyor community.  He recently spoke at the national SAMS (Society of Accredited Marine Surveyors) conference on expectations from an insurance company perspective. 

With all the hats Tom has worn, he believes in combating fraud to protect the boating community and keeping insurance rates down.  Tom's multifaceted experience in the insurance industry and with Markel makes him the captain of Markel Marine.
